I'm curious about why he - in particular - is needed. My dad has been retired 17 years (he's 62), and - as I was saying to my boss at work just this morning - he doesn't exercise like he should anymore, since the Army doesn't make him. I'm just wondering - again, depending on the job he'll be expected to do - whether he's still up for it, physically...

what they seem to be avoiding here is that he pretty much has to be an officer who didn't want to resign his commission. I don't know of any way they can do this to an enlisted person. And I don't know why he didn't resign his commission if he didn't want this possibility.
Cordially,
Uncle J
