Greyhawk,
Thank you for posting this. The Longest Day is by far one of my favorite movies.
As a matter of fact, some weeks ago, TCM had what they called an "anti-war film marathon." and they ran movies like Full metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now and others they deemed "anti-war". Now, Ive been watching war films since I was a kid, and have seen pretty much all of them and Ive never, ever taken any to be a "pro-war" film, so for me, TCM's marathon was misnamed. No war movie ever shows war as a good thing. they all depict the horrors and carnage and death of war.
TCM's marathon would have been more aptly named "anti-victory" as, in essence, that's exactly what their "war" films were.

Val, you hit the nail on the head. Every time I see a "top ten war films" list I always thought they had a more anti-war slant then most (war is "bad" instead of war is hell), but you've expressed it perfectly.
