My late father, John Mitchum was a WWII veteran and a patriot. He also happened to be a Grammy nominated poet and actor. My father wrote the only album John Wayne ever recorded, AMERICA, WHY I LOVE HER.
Several of his friends are joining to create a tribute to my father and his works by recording his poetry.
I would like to pay tribute to all of you by sharing a few links with you.
Jimmie Rodgers (Honeycomb fame) came out of retirement to record the last poem written, PURPLE HEART.

Thanks for the nice Veterans day message.
Cindy and friends, you have a special invitation to our 3rd weekly USO dance party Friday night. This is a John Kerry-free zone where conservatives know how to party.

First of all happy holidays to all of those over seas away from their loved ones you are missed and thanked for all that you do. This will be my oldest sons 16th year as military and another holiday season will be without him I believe most of the time the enemy hopes to pray on the holiday blues of the guys away from home and hope their mind is not on their job but thousands of miles away with their family I suggest that even though home is always on your mind hoildays is the prime time to get mad as hell for being there when home and apple pie is where you want to be and fight harder stay more alert and understand it is the inability of the enemy to comply that keeps it going. No matter if I agree with war or not you all signed on to do a job and damn it America is good at what we put our hearts and souls into know you are backed by the families that wait for your homecoming and we will always stand by your side. So give them hell come home to you families who love and need you and remember you are loved and respected ALL GOD BLESS April

Among the many men and women past and present who have sacrificed all for our freedoms and priviliges i would like to say thank you. I was in the US AIR FORCE in 1997, unfortunatley I was not in for a full tour. I am the second person in my family to have been in the air force. The first was my Grampa Ed Waterman. Everyone else was in USA, USMC, or USN. My father retired after 20 yrs service. I cannot begin to know what battle is like, but my heart goes out to the families of our troops in the middle of it all now. I never really knew my grandfather ( He was a TSgt, and died when i was real little.) but what time i was in i tried to live up to what i thought would make him proud. But what i would really like to say is to the people who who sit eating your meals with your families and watching your sports, please, stop what you are doing and spend a minute thinking about how good you have because the boys are risking everything for you and yours. While you sleep in a comfortable bed, these guys are laying down on roads and airstrips, holes dug in the sand, and mud pits. While you sit outside on a nice warm evening listening to the crickets, they listen to machine gun fire, richochets, and RPG explosions. You eat @ McDonalds, they eat MRE's ( which arent all too bad when your hungry enough) or they sometimes dont eat at all. While you take nice hot showers, they dont get to wash up sometimes for days to weeks at a time. I aplogize for griping like this, but i am so damn proud of our soldiers that i cant begin to tell you. When each one dies or is hurt, my heart aches. For each one of them I proudly salute, and only wish that they come home safely. You truly are American Heroes
