addendum to addendum: Eade and I were discussing all of this the other night when he brought up the bit about King Philip's War being one of the bloodiest, proportionately. He had read that somewhere. I poked around the Internet and pulled these numbers together, but can't vouch for accuracy in more than the most general way. Eade, who is a 20th-century kind of guy, went to a sort of proto-Internet he uses that is called a "public library." Instead of webpages, they have pages made of "paper" in things called "books," each of which has about a megabyte of data and is about the size and weight of a laptop. Also, you have to do all your own computing and data recovery. Not very efficient, and Eade couldn't find what he was looking for, but he likes doing it that way. Anyway, if anyone can improve on our KPW info, please do.
