I'm a big Mudville fan, but also Victor Davis Hanson. I read his article on NRO, and I thought it was pretty effective satire. Am I missing something?

Mark,
SATIRE. Ironic remark. Greyhawk agrees 100%. (Not to speak for him, but...)

Thanks, Dad ... I feel better already!

One of the true ironies was Hanson's use of Hitler to parody the recent kerfuffle over Zarqawi's abuse of a captured SAW, since Hitler did in fact serve on the front lines in WW1, and was even awarded the Iron Cross.

Outstanding article. I know a fair bit of history about WWII and have been thinking along similar lines but I bow down before VDH on the outstanding job he did bringing all of the storylines & parallels into perspective.

The story always has reminded me of that documentary "My Uncle Saddam" that was shot quite a few years ago in Iraq and smuggled out. It showed Saddam's favorite method of fishing on family outings. - With a grenade. Who knew that evil men could also look so stupid?

This article makes me wonder how current events will be seen 10, 25, or 50 years from now. I'll certainly agree that things could have been done better, but it's easy to criticize mistakes after the fact. If you look hard enough, you can find good news coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan. If enough of these pieces come together, we might eventually see the victory we had hoped to achieve quickly.

I'm beginning to get a little disgruntled with all this talk about "government conspiracy" - especially with the War in Iraq. I don't believe it is a conspiracy to make efforts to garner the support of your people to support your troops. Unfortunately, I also believe all of the negative publicity we have seen by the left has forced our government to do what is necessary to counteract these efforts.
