Now, shall we send a group of Boy Scouts to Arlington National Cemetery, and all the other National Cemeteries, to pull up all the crosses? Lets get rid of the ACLU lunatics instead.

I see nothing wrong with the cross. It has been there for years. But, lets be fair about where the ACLU might be coming from. Do we have soldiers that are Jewish? Do we have soldiers that are American Indian? Do we have soldiers that are Buddist? The majority of the world does not believe that Jesus is the Savior. Perhaps there were Jewish or Indian families that complained about their loved ones being buried where there was a religious symbol that contradicted their faith.

Perhaps. But I certainly haven't heard of any.
I think the next step is to require the city and county of San Diego to change their names. After all, it's clearly a religious reference and violates the Constitutional rights of people to not be offended by references to religion.

Pathetic. The ACLU are out to destroy America and they don't hide it.

Please permit me a contrary view. As a former resident of that area, I'd advise you to pick your battles more carefully.
Yes, it's a war memorial, and yes nobody objected to the cross on Mt Soledad at the time ... because during the Korean War La Jolla was a very tightly restricted, whites-only community. No blacks, Mexicans, or Jews allowed -- and back then, they would have used rather offensive words for those ethnic groups. It wasn't until the early 1960s, when UCSD came in (with a lot of Jewish professors) and when California banned housing discrimination, that La Jolla opened up to anyone who wasn't Christian and white.
I can understand the emotional involvement of veterans and Christians in this. The cross has been there a long time. But y'know folks, this particular monument does not represent America at its finest. Those who would preserve the cross should ask themselves whether they'd keep a historic building just as it was ... complete with "Whites Only" and "Colored" bathrooms and drinking fountains.
Yes, those brave men who sacrificed their lives for our country deserve a monument. But what's wrong with a flag? Or an eternal flame? Or an obelisk -- it was good enough for George Washington, wasn't it?
