To this civilian, the black flag also symbolizes those killed in service to this nation. Every time I see it - and I've *never* see one that is faded and tattered - I'm reminded that good men and women volunteer to place themselves between my family and those who seek to do us harm, and that many of them have given their all.
James Carrol can go pound sand.

I found a wonderful children's book called "America's White Table" that tells about the empty place setting. Depending on what grade I end up teaching, I will share it with my students - it's not age appropriate for very young kids. However, if you have kids, it's a nice picture book that can teach them something valuable.

John Kerry headed a panel that decided there were no POWs still in Vietnam???? Imagine that. I guess that makes it true, huh?
Screw James Carroll. His article really pissed me off.

What he fails to see is that keeping that flag flying is not about America letting go of it's "self-inflicted psychological wound" as he puts it, it's about remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so I can live here in peace. Yet another example of how certain people need to inject politics into everything. This man is a whacko with a total lack of respect, and they will never be forgotten.

Could someone forward this info to carrol about why Kerry said there were no POW's left in Vietnam.
Kerry's cousin, C. Stewart Forbes, chief executive for Colliers International, assisted in brokering a $905 million deal to develop a deep-sea port at Vung Tau, Vietnam.
Kerry cares about one thing and one thing only, money. I still can't understand how he and Chappaquidick Teddy keep getting re-elected by those idiots in Mass. Murderer, and traitor, elected officials both.

Only to a rabid left-wing "journalist" is sitting in an office sipping latte in the freest nation on Earth while hating Bush and "speaking truth to power" from a computer equivalent to being imprisoned for years and tortured with starvation, bamboo chutes under the fingernails, forced labor, beatings and electric shocks - by Communists.
Twilight zone time.

Years ago, when the search for POWs was much more urgent, I read a quote from an amazed Vietnamese: "You come for the bones of your dead."
We have always required our government to account to us for the lives of our soldiers to the extent humanly possible. What is humanly possible has expanded with time. That's fine with me.
My heart and my thanks goes out to the families of the missing and the dead.
"And the war isn't over for Momma,
Every night in her dreams she still sees
the young face of someone who left her
silver medals and sweet memories."
That song is about WWII. Surely it holds true for those who lost loved ones in Vietnam, as well.

The Vigilante code in 1864 Montana Territory for doubt as to guilt. It's the dimensions of a grave: 3 foot by 7 foot by 77 inches.
