So I guess there were no 'suspicious' foreign-type elements wandering around Samarra BEFORE the mosque had that unfortunate accident ?
This seems to me like 'window-dressing'. When Al-Queda types are hung from the lamposts in Sunni areas ALL THE TIME, I will take these 'declarations' more seriously. Would this not be solidarity message # 105 at this point?
The Sunnis are playing a dangerous game here of distancing themselves just enough from the lunatics that it is somewhat unfair to blame the whole group, and you might think they would be sensible enough to see what will happen to them if they don't start destroying these fanatics and building a new Iraq.
You might think that, and then you remember --- Oh Yeah. This is the Mid-East after all where common sense is a very, very, very, uncommon personality trait.
I have this unpleasant feeling that sooner or later all this Sunni 'nuance' is going to engender a HUGE response, and that we will be able to hear the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth all the way from every point in the 'triangle'. They are fortunate indeed it has not already blown up in their faces. I think their luck has just about run out.
'Statements' just are not going to cut it at this point.
