Welcome to the Dawn Patrol, our daily roundup of information on the War on Terror and other topics - from the MilBlogs, other blogs, and the mainstream media. If you're a blogger, you can join the conversation. If you link to any of these stories, add a link to the Dawn Patrol too and your trackback will be added to the list. (We have a daily "Open Post" too, if you have something on another topic you can link there.)
Today is sadly my last day to do the Dawn Patrol for Mrs. Greyhawk. She should be back tomorrow. I want to let everyone know what a pleasure it was to read your blogs each day for the past 2 1/2 weeks, and what a privilage it was to do the Dawn Patrol. I've gained an all new respect for the milbloggers (which was high to begin with!) and become more informed about just about everything than I ever have been in the past...lol.
Thanks to The Stupid Shall Be Punished, I now know more about Naval Warfare than I ever thought possible. Thanks to ScrappleFace and Point Five I've had a good laugh every morning. In short, every single milblogger has had wonderful posts on just about everything, and I enjoyed every minute of reading them.
Thanks everyone and if you start to miss me you can always come over to my blog to visit!
Metal rain --[MREater - in Iraq]
I woke up around 0200 this morning and couldn?t return to sleep. Insomnia and I are old friends, so I just relaxed bed, waiting for morning, listening to the air conditioner. I moved into my CHU last December and turned on the unit and haven?t shut it off since.
Ghost of a Father --[A Soldier's Thoughts - in Iraq]
I get so scared sometimes that my kids will think I have left them. That maybe their daddy doesn't care about them or that they will forget me. I know you will tell me that these are hollow fears but to me they aren't.
God curse your moustache you Bedouin on a camel!! --[Iraq the Model - an Iraqi in Iraq]
The Iraqi government right now is facing so many hardships in the last few months of its age until the elections come. And while the officials are trying hard to prove their administrative and functional control over government institutions, challenges are escalating which render the government almost paralyzed between old and new problems and upcoming challenges represented mainly by the success of the constitution in the October referendum.
Record --[Ma Deuce Gunner - in Iraq]
My brigade, the 116th Brigade Combat Team, made up of units from Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, New Jersey, and California, currently owns the record for re-enlisting soldiers, out of any unit, Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Inside the War Zone --[Inside Iraq]
My name is Hassan Kharrufa. I am an Iraqi, a Muslim, and a 20-year-old civil engineering student. I am the oldest son in a family of five, including two parents, two boys and one girl. I have lived my whole life in Iraq, never been abroad, never seen another country aside from pictures, never seen a foreigner aside from U.S. soldiers, and never seen a government aside from dictatorship.

Two weeks before Iraqis vote on a new constitution, with millions of copies already circulating for voters to study, U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad is leading a drive for major changes in the charter to try to win crucial Sunni Arab support, according to Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds involved in the last-ditch negotiations.
The Missing Pak-Afghan Link --[Afghan Reality]
The emerging debate over Durrand Line, the growing cross-border security tensions and most recently the vanishing of Afghani coins suggest one thing: the serious lack of Pak-Afghan cooperation.

The Arab Mind & the Denial Phenomenon. --[Winds of Change]
Until recently, I believed the first step in the Arab Mind journey to progress and modernity was the ?acceptance of criticism? and the diffusion of a general cultural/intellectual climate which does not adopt a defensive posture towards criticism but welcomes it as a tool of positive feedback, a climate in which self-criticism is practiced without any reservations, constraints or taboos.
US Debating to Cut Troops as Well --[GI Korea]
We have heard this before but the US military is once again entertaining the idea of more troop cuts in Korea...
German Unity Day --[Soldiers Angels Germany]
On October 3, 1990, the reunification of Germany became official. For over 45 years, West and East Germany existed side-by-side but in two different worlds. In a matter of months, the umimaginable became reality.

Now He's Just Making Stuff Up --[The Stupid Shall Be Punished]
Noted as a sphincter-brimmed writer for Soldiers For The Truth, Lt. Raymond Perry USN (Ret.) is apparently that website's "expert" on submarine matters....Well, I can't say that he's an asshat here -- that would imply that his head was up his ass, and that can't be, because he had to have some room to put his hand up there so he could pull that number out of it. Submarines have to maneuver when they get within 10,000 yards of a surface contact?

More about Harriet Miers: Beth Without Profanity Edition (with updates) --[My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy]
I have to laugh at those who say she?s the wrong person and at the same time say she?s too old (at 60??). Seems to me they?d be happy to have ?the wrong person? with one foot in the grave, but I think most of the hand-wringers with their dresses up over their heads (as the Anchoress would say) have collectively lost their freakin? minds.

About Dang Time! --[Assumption of Command]
After two very long days in Kuwait, a 22 hour and 47 minute intercontinental flight (including the 3 layovers) , two incredibly bad Chiefs games, 5 long days getting my company De-mobilized with nearly zero internet access, and one Chipotle Burrito later, I am home in Kansas City. Phew!
