Oh, wait! It gets better!
The excuse for the DM Register editorial running despite the weight of evidence _published by them in their own paper_ is the editorial was written and scheduled on Thursday, June 23rd. Couldn't pull it. Not enough time. So sorry.
So in the day and age of the internet, fax machines, and instant communications 96 hours was - doggonnit - just not enough time to pull a flawed editorial from publication. Just don't notice the fact it took about 24 hours after the accident for the DM Register to publish Justin Byers' "suicide".
Tune in to http://www.inmuscatine.com for further updates on the bias run amok in Iowa !

There are 3 reasons I no longer subscribe to the DMR.
1. Rekha Basu
2. Her husband Rob..also an opinion writer for the DMR.
3..and this is the biggie.
On the day one of our soldiers was KIA..and before either the family of the soldier who was killed, or the family members of other soldiers in the platoon were notified, I recieved a phone call out of the blue from a reporter from the DMR.
He was digging..but with his questions he basically told me (BEFORE we received notification) that a member of our platoon had been KIA and that others were seriously injured.
My daughter was in the kitchen with me when I took the call..I couldn't even begin to choke out the right words to her. All I could do was stand there and sob. I knew someone had died, I didn't know who it was..was it my husband? Was it a friends husband? The father of one of the children I had grown to love? The son of a family I knew and cared about? We only had a platoon sized element at that location, so all I knew was that SOMEONE I knew and cared about was gone, and others were injured.
Later, though they had been asked to stay across the street and AWAY from the funeral, a group of wives, me included, was approached at the doors to the church hall by different reporter from the Register and asked to comment.
We all declined.
Now lets fast forward to Casey..
Casey came from our battalion. Casey was on his second VOLUNTARY tour of duty. That's right, he volunteered to deploy with the 224th to Iraq.
In a two day period, his family and friends had to deal with Casey's funeral..which Phelps and his thugs picketed..and the loss of a second son..Justin..known as Paul.
On top of that, they have to deal with a ruling of suicide..then it's revoked..and in the meantime, they get this "opinion" piece by Rehka Basu.
Rehka and the Register can belly ache all they want about how they "support the troops", I call BS. From my position, all I see them doing is slapping soldiers and their families in the face, over and over again. They want their story and they want to spout their views, they don't give a damn about the pain they cause in the process.

I can't understand why the press can't come up with some positive stuff. I know it is happening in Iraq (good things). It sure would make me feel better. I even think it may make things improve worldwide. They need to run one positive story a day. I bet their sales would even improve. Maybe we need to let a few people get their skulls split. LOL
