Star Wars is really just new retellings of myths and stories that have long been a part of our culture. This accounts for much of it's universal appeal. So in a certain sense, the stories belong to and were written by everyone, not just Lucas. So it's possible for the stories to be widely interpreted. So yes, go see it and enjoy it. You are only going to get out of it whatever you brought in with you in the first place. (insert Yoda-like saying here)

Yep. I had a world lit. teacher say that Star Wars was nothing more than a "buddy flick" in the great tradition leading back to the Epic of Gilgamesh.
Personally I'd give it a closer association to the Hope-Crosby "Road to Wherever" pictures...

I think that Lucas has gotten very good at just smiling and agreeing with whatever people say. Not that he might not agree, but what would he gain by insisting people understand it correctly? No matter what he does, he gets accused of racism. He ignores that, too. People make up religious significance to the Force and generally embrace the tin-foil hat tendancies in their lives. If he felt the need to insist and correct every assertion made it would never end.

Read an interesting article that has a former marketing head at a major studio say that he thought Lucas did it to keep the PR juggernaut rolling, keep it in the news, etc.
Seems like even bad publicity is good money making.
