As I wander through the blogosphere I have noticed the lack of tolerance to the opinions of others. I would understand this if the comments
given were all harsh or just mean spirited but it seems to me that honest discourse is discouraged at many blogs. It would appear if you disagree at all with the opinions of the blogger then you are banned. I have noticed this especially at the Democraticunderground and the Americablog. I for one want to hear an opinion that is different from my own. It challenges me to look closer at my own thoughts. I am sure there are some right wing bloggers that enforce a "my way or the highway" policy but I think it is sad that some people are so entrenched in ideologue they refuse to consider another perspective. I believe they are missing an opportunity to learn and grow as people and as bloggers. I haven't seen this at any Milblogs though but then, I'm not surprised by that!
Thanks Hawkman for the room to vent a little!

Often "freedom of Speech" applies only to the liberal left. Used as a tool whenever anyone questions their remarks, they quickly trot out the first amendment. i.e. Ward Churchill. In fact the first amendment only protects one from legal prosicution for speaking their mind. I does not guarantee there will be no repercussions for our actions and words.

Virg -- AMEN.
Each of us has the right to say even the stupidest things in public, without fear of government reprisal or denial of our inalienable rights.
What the anti-war crowd doesn't seem to understand, however, is that the rest of us have BOTH the right and the responsibility to publically challenge what we view as stupidity, when the facts support that conclusion.
Such public confrontations -- from the actions of groups like Protest Warrior to radio stations who refused to play Dixie Chicks songs -- are not censorship; they are instead a valuable (and safe) feedback mechanism that removes the need for government to use its heavy (and potentially abusive) hand to correct such stupidity.
The anti-war crowd is not used to such opposition, so they are understandably bellicose when it appears.
They need to understand that the phrase "It's just my opinion" doesn't cut it in this day and age, when a stupid viewpoint, if implemented, can lead to dire consequences for civilized society.
