This is wonderful. Though I certainly feel for the family left waiting for their return.
What is really interesting to me, is that the military needed people with experience in education. I imagine Gunny Phelps working with Iraqi children and I have to smile.

My husband is re-enlisting while he's in Afghanistan.
I'm just a wife, but I know my husband, he wouldn't have it any other way. It may not be easy, but that's the choice I made when I married him 16 years ago.
However, trying to explain it to family and friends is a whole 'nother story.

I'm 72,Korean Vet and Ex-POW and I would love to be stretching out a new pair of boots right now. You are so right if you haven't been there you will never understand it. My time is short but would still like to hear a Gunny yell "SADDLE UP" just one more time.

GreyHawk:
It sounds like an interesting article. Unfortunately, if the article was orginally printed any earlier than one day ago, the LA Times forces you to pay to read the entire article.
Thanks anyway
