Well, Hell...'Hawk!...
Glad to "hear" from ya'!...
...also, I'm glad ya' put the death-o-meter statement ta' rest...
I will go find my "Pot" if someone actually places a "realtime" Warrior Death Count Meter on the Internet (...there isn't one, is there?). I had it with the "body bag count two-step" in the '60's and I've never got over that lil' statistical whim...
Stay safe...er, do your damndest!... Them banana milk thingys sound good... When you're off patrol...a little contraband Captain Morgan added to that yellow box... to soothe the nerves?...
::thumbup:: (... and not that wimpy thing Kerry "shows around!")...

"What steps would you take to reduce the deaths in Iraq to less than 1000?"
Necromancy?

More seriously: the only way I can see a "death toll" going down is if an earlier estimate proved to be incorrect and the actual number of dead was lower.

The issue that is being discussed is the feeling of safety.
Kennedy says we are less safe because we went into Iraq. I believe that we are more safe. The problem is that this war has not ended. Let us discuss one that has ended: WWII.
Were we safer the day before Pearl Harbor or the day after? Before the Dolittle Raid or after?
Algeria, Morocco, Sicily, France, Italy?
Fall of Germany? Surrender of Japan?
We could list all of the battles of WWII. We were certainly safer at the end of the war than at the beginning. Each battle was one step on the road to victory. Does each step make us one step safer?
Is this a model worth using? Can safety be measured? Can we even talk intelligently about our safety without first defining our terms?
I am glad that someone is finally pointing out the "mounting death toll" cliche.

Gee, pete, who should I trust here? Greyhawk is a military officer currently serving in Iraq, defending your right to life, liberty, and running off at the mouth. You, however, know the truth, because you hang out in all of the right chat rooms. Who do I believe? Who do I believe? Gee, that's a tough one.

I should apologize to pete or petey, which I like to refer him as. I deleted your comment in haste. My husband is over there fighting for your right to free speech, and I should respect that and let you voice your opinon. But be very careful of insulting my husband.
You know, Reporters are free to report truth (that's what soldiers are dying for) but that "the death toll continues to rise" is both an undeniably true and blazingly stupid comment that clearly resonates with blazingly stupid people."

Thanks Greyhawk. Banana milk I've never heard of...I didn't know bananas could be milked! If politicians can answer your question - they'll get my vote. Fact is while 1,000 is horrible for the 1,000 families...after 18 months in combat it is significantly low. How many did we lose in WWII or Vietnam at this point? The debates should be fun to watch and aggravating at the same time. THANK YOU for protecting our freedom over there. You'd do yourself well by asking Mrs. Greyhawk to send you a Misty Mate bottle for the spring and summer when it gets hot. I've sent a few to the guys I support and they have offers of $50 and up from their friends. Misty Mate will give you a discount if you order 12 or more at a time. It is WELL WORTH it. The marines have also fallen in love with them. So heads up. And be safe!
