I spent 24 years in the military. The military does NOT want the draft reinstated. They are having no problems reaching their recruiting goals and they do not want to return to the days when their ranks were filled with slack-jawed, pot-smoking FM rock and roll types randomly reeled in by the draft net. Besides, Canada's gene pool still hasn't recovered from the influx of draft dodgers during the Vietnam War.

Retention may be great for the national guard, but the special operations communities are not seeing the same. Prosecuting Navy SEALs for buttstroking tangos and paying blackwater/triple canopy contractors $1000/day is undermining the most important strategic asset in the GWOT.

Not commenting if you’re wrong or right about the recruiting goals. The media is stating we are having issue with recruiting. If the draft comes about, note that the wheel started over 20 years ago with down sizing. If we had the same military we had 20 years ago most of the issue that plague the military would not be issues at all. You want to place blame, look at why and who downsized. (What to save a buck, take it out of the military).

I've read elsewhere that the drawdown, beginning in '91 reduced standing forces by about 709,000. That was from an all volunteer military. So what do we need a draft for? If we need to expand the military, then what it most needs is *funding*
