Many of the Bloggers I read (and perhaps most Bloggers) are reformed liberals, if you will. "Granola conservatives" going "...straight from left wing to right wing without ever once passing through a phase where (they) trusted the government." Whatever you call it, the path is not the same for all of us, but certainly similar to note the parallels and feel a sense of kinship. The path is the journey from unquestioning liberal because I've always been that way to hey, wait a minute! That's not right!
I've always speculated the transition is a natural event that occurs when a person becomes more concerned about the world and its future then about their own self interests. Self-reliant people, invariably. Thus they do not need a Government to take care of them. To provide roads, yes. To tell us where to go on those roads, no. Thus people move from Libertarian/Liberal to Libertarian/Conservative.
This is an international phenomenon. And a great thing about Blogs is you get to meet folks from all over the world who are sharing (to some degree) that journey. And I mention all this just to introduce a couple guys I've read for quite some time, from two very different places looking therefore at very different things from very similar points of view. I won't pretend to have insight into the inner workings of their minds, but I do believe they think the way I would think if I were where they were - serious stuff broken up with occasional chuckles. Get it? Good, explain it to me.
Without further ado, please go visit Bernie Slattery in Australia. Bernie is a professional journalist with a Blog, thus you'll have to adjust to his excellent writing style. He does not appear to be concerned for the feelings of liberals or for political correctness.
And then, to hear a voice of reason from a really bizarro foreign land where up is down and truth is bent, go read John Lemon. John is a professor in the California University System. Talk about behind enemy lines!
These guys are top-notch bloggers and excellent writers. Perhaps the best still on Blogspot. They far outshine a lot of folks currently taking up server space with MT Blogs. Click the links and enjoy.
